The Douro Valley, renowned for its production of Port wine, is famous for its fortified wines with elevated alcohol content. Port wine is crafted by incorporating grape spirits (aguardente) during fermentation, arresting the process and preserving residual sugars, culminating in its signature sweet and opulent flavor. Situated near Porto, the town of Vila Nova de Gaia houses numerous Port wine cellars and aging warehouses.
